Orianna Osorio participated in the CIMAS/MDC internship program in 2024. She worked on a project centered around the Submersible Automated Sampler for environmental-DNA (SASe). The SASe is an open source and budget friendly programmable robot invented at NOAA AOML, and is intended to sample eDNA and preserve the sample in situ. Orianna gained experience processing eDNA samples in the molecular laboratory and analyzing data. She worked with mentor Francis Serrano in the Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystems Division at NOAA AOML. Before her internship, Orianna was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and a minor in Biology at Miami Dade College. The protocols that Orianna developed during her internship are still used in the lab today!
