I'm Sarahi Rodriguez, a Miami native with a rich blend of Argentine and Cuban heritage. As an Environmental Science major, I'm driven by the vision of bridging humanity and nature, striving for a stable and thriving Earth. My goal is to contribute to this mission through sustainable initiatives and fostering a deep connection between people and the environment, aiming for a brighter and greener future.
At the forefront of my summer pursuits was the in-depth exploration of the the Bluefin Tuna Larval Ecology Project (BLOOFINZ-IO, NSF-1851395), my summer was devoted to delving into the intricacies of the southern bluefin tuna's nursery areas within the Indian Ocean. This initiative sought to uncover the nuanced relationships between nutrient dynamics, and the critical early life stages of the southern bluefin tuna.
Engaging in a range of hands-on activities, I contributed to this endeavor by meticulously sorting diverse aquatic specimens, including fishes, cephalopods, eggs, and scombridae. The heart of my involvement lay in conducting precise measurements on the bluefin tuna specimens, capturing essential data for the project. My responsibilities extended to data management and analysis, bolstering the scientific understanding of these pivotal marine ecosystems. Additionally, I documented the distinctive features of the bluefin tuna through photographs, employing specialized scientific equipment to capture invaluable visual records.
My participation in the Bluefin Tuna Larval Ecology Project not only deepened my connection to environmental science but also made a tangible contribution to advancing our knowledge of the Indian Ocean's intricate ecological fabric. As a member of this research initiative, I am proud to have played a role in this critical exploration.
My upcoming plans encompass a diverse range of exciting endeavors. I am set to take on the role of President for the STEMSA Club at Wolfson Campus, where I aim to foster a vibrant STEM community. Simultaneously, my research journey continues as I engage in the Biofuel Lipid Extraction of Egeria densa research project at Miami Dade College, contributing to sustainable solutions. Additionally, I will sustain my position as a board member for the Environmental Awareness and Preservation (YES Club), championing environmental causes.
Continuing my commitment to mentorship, I'm thrilled to enter my second year as a mentor for the STEM Legacy organization. Guiding incoming STEM students through their college transition is a role I embrace with enthusiasm. These multifaceted opportunities reflect my dedication to both academic and community-driven pursuits, and I'm eagerly looking forward to making meaningful contributions in these areas.
