Each Fall, CIMAS proudly hosts the "Exploring the Science of Hurricanes" event with the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, Miami's local chapter. The event teaches the girls about how hurricanes form and how to stay safe, El Niño/La Niña weather phenomena, and they get to see and hear what it’s like to fly on a hurricane hunter aircraft. Activities are designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills and inspire the girls to explore careers in this field.
Additionally, CIMAS provides transportation to the event for Community Troops, providing girls from low-income communities access to this event. We have proudly been collaborating with the Girl Scouts since 2023, and we thank our partners at Rosenstiel and NOAA AOML for their continued participation!
